"No Relationship, No Emotions, Just Sex"
Jamie (Mila Kunis) is an executive producer for a leading job agency in New York City who recruits Dylan (Justin Timberlake) for GQ magazine. The two begin a friendship due to Dylan not knowing anyone else in the metropolis. One night while watching a romantic comedy, they talk about sex and how it should not come with emotional attachments and decide to start a non-dating relationship that is based on recreational sex. Guerrero defines recreational orientation as, "viewing sex as a primary source of fun, escape, excitement, or pleasure." In the clip below, Jame and Dylan vow to have only recreational sex with no interest of an emotional relationship.
From Friends to Friends with Benefits
For a few weeks Dylan and Jamie experience short-term sex. Guerrero defines short-term sex as, "a couple has sex once or more without developing an emotionally intimate relationship." This is exactly what Dylan and Jamie need in their lives after they broke up with their previous relationships. Most short term sex examples are hookups or one-night stands. Dylan and Jamie's hang-outs turn into hookups. Guerrero also mentions that women seek out short-term sex relationships just as much as men. Dylan and Jamie go to show that statement is true.
